2015/6/23 - [Interview] Talks with Chinese Olympic Sailor--Dongshuang Zhang
The first Xiangjiang River International Regatta was held in Changsha, Hunan Province during 20th-21st, 2015. It was the biggest river regatta ever held in China, nearly 100 boats and 200 sailors got involved. Among the sailors from home and abroad, there are some Olympic top sailors. Zhik sponsored Chinese laser radial sailor Dongshuang Zhang also participated in the regatta. Sunrise, on behalf of Zhik has approached Dongshuang and had an interview with her on how she felt about the Xiangjiang International Regatta. from RIGHT: DONGSHUANG Zhang SML:I heard that you flew to Changsha without taking a break after coming back from Britain. How was the race in Britain? Eko:Yes, I took a direct flight to Changsha when came back to China. Normally the time in the plane is my break time. The race in Weymouth was very competitive. The top sailor from all over the world have shown up there. SML: Was this the first time you sail in Xiangjiang River? How did you feel? Eko:Yes, this was my first time sail in the river. It was pretty fun! I can see the on-spot audience which was awesome! I could feel the hospitality from the locals. SML: How was the current in the river? EKO:The water current is very strong here. The route is not as broad as the professional route, and it needs stronger wind to sail. SML: What Zhik gear have you brought with you this time? Can you share them with us? Eko: The weather is quite warm here. Therefore I've brought some cool and thin gears such as the spandex tops and hybrid pants. I also brought a set of warm gear such as hydrophobic tops and microfleece pants in case of unexpected weather variations. Sailing sometimes means fighting with the nature, weather varies from time to time and as an experienced sailor, i know how to get well prepared. The Zhik dinghy wet-suits are super stretch and extremely tough. I can always focus on the competition while in the wetsuites. SML: What's your impression of the Xiangjiang River International Regatta in general? Was it fun? Eko:It was fun! In fact one of the main purposes that me and my team mates were here is to promote sailing as a sport to the local people. We hope to see more and more people will have the chance to know about sailing. I believe with the success of the Xiangjiang River International Regatta, more and more people will try to get involved in sailing and fall in love with it. SML: What's next after the trip to Changxia? Eko: There are many races in the rest of year. The latest trip is the Olympic Test Race in Rio in July.
